Martin Lee Casey
Jazz Vocalist

Martin Lee Casey´s journey to jazz singing followed a somewhat roundabout route. After studing art and design in England in the sixties he decided to pursue his then second love, jazz musik and took up clarinet lessons. Martin was always musical, an eclectic musician who went on to study the saxophone, an instrument he still plays and teaches today.

When asked about his early vocal influences, he remembers the time when he was sixteen years old and living near London and he heard Georgie Fame for the first time. The idea of singing for me was born and that experience helped seal my fate, so to speak, and it was listening to Georgie doing vocalese on songs like Moody´s Mood that opened my ears to other artists like Jon Hendricks, King Pleasure and the great Eddie Jefferson. It was some time later that I started to listen to singers like Mark Murphy and Oscar Brown Jr

Martin moved to Germany in the seventies and has played and sung with Gala Bands for many years at the top venues in and around the Cologne Area. He has become known in the jazz scene for his warm voice, inventive approach, tasty repertoire, excellent phrasing, and storytelling ability.

His repetoire is a compilation of many of his favorite songs and ranges from the most intimate of ballads to the most animated and innovative versions of jazz standards and pop songs. Each of them has influenced me in one way or another

Martin has established himself as a popular and entertaining vocalist who is equally at home in a piano duo setting, a jazz quartet or swinging with a Big-Band.
